Eaglets of the Garden: Secular Children's Book Collection
MAXIMUS & MAGNOLIA
I am developing a collection of books filled with allegorical depictions for early readers. This series will serve as the pre-story for MelissAllegories which is targeted for a mature audience: 17 years and older.
Eaglets of the Garden will take young readers into an enchanting world through the use of literary devices, such as, metaphors, similes, onomatopoeia, repetition, rhythm, and rhyme. Eaglets of the Garden touches on notions of creation while emphasizing growth; moreover, a growth mindset regarding curiosity, strategic thinking (or problem solving), perceptions, and discernment. Children will be able to relate to Maximus, the greatest, and Magnolia, the delicate flower, as they each discover simple truths to uncover limiting beliefs at the garden.

MelissAllegories: Strings of Metaphors
MelissAllegories mixes creative writing with allegorical representations. My studio and written work combine imagery with a variety of artistic techniques, from which I will construct a (semi-)hidden narrative through the use of the literary device allegoría (ἀλληγορία): veiled or figurative language. The gradually expanding body of work titled, MelissAllegories, is a cohesive visual art collection made up of four groups/worlds: At the Garden, The Deep-Sea, Caged-City, and Inside the Cave. Each group will take place in a different setting with different main characters which are all interconnected, and together they will represent a multiplied number of metaphors that are combined to communicate secular principles and values.
Overall, MelissAllegories focuses on personal growth and/or enlightenment, contemplation and discernment (or deep thoughts), protection versus power and mind-control, and the art of writing or solving codes. The narrative will speak of human values, such as hope, as a means to positively inspire towards reaching self-actualization and human flourishing. I will be working on an allegorical narrative and a separate body of work which will consist of 24 mixed-medium drawings.

The Life Garden: One Metrical Path That Leads Back
The Life Garden is a visual/studio extension of MelissAllegories' At the Garden theme. The Life Garden will emphasize the importance of harmony, as it relates to self-actualization and global human flourishing. Moreover, in both a figurative and literal sense, it will visually communicate the importance of cultivating and maintaining nutrient-dense soil and give the audience an appreciation for nature. This body of work will consist of 12 paintings done with acrylic and oil paints.
